Dr. Brian C. Au joined the practice in 2011, after having been in private practice in Tucson, Arizona since 2008. He is a Board Certified ophthalmologist who is fellowship-trained in Cornea & External Diseases and Refractive Surgery at the Virginia Commonwealth University. He performs cataract surgery, advanced technology intraocular lens implants (i.e. Tecnis Multifocal, ReStor, Toric astigmatism lenses), pterygium removal, complex anterior segment reconstruction surgery, as well as corneal transplants, including the newer partial-thickness DSAEK procedure.
Dr. Au is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Texas Medical Association, and Harris County Medical Society.
Dr. Au was born in Evanston, Illinois. He grew up living in Hong Kong and Taiwan until his family returned to the United States in 1987. Dr. Au decided to go “full circle” back to Evanston to get his B.A. degree in Environmental Science at Northwestern University. He received his Doctorate of Medicine degree at Boston University, and completed his ophthalmology residency at UTMB in Galveston, where he served as Co-Chief Resident. He later completed his cornea fellowship at the Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Au is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and Spanish.
